إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
“Verily, we are Allah's and verily to Him shall we return.” (Holy Quran - 2:156)
Take Back Our Streets
began when inner-communal violence claimed the life of Melvin Johnson Jr. A pillar in the multiple communities he lived in throughout his 39 years of life. This new trauma to his family came just a month and days after losing his 8yr old son, Jah’Mel Tillman Johnson to lymphoma. Melvin took an active stand in the community in 2013 when inner-communal violence stole the lives of his 20yr old son Andrew Thomas and 1yr old baby grand son Andrew “Baby Drew” Thomas. Melvin left his children, family and community comrades to mourn his passing but, we must continue the work on his behalf to end unnecessary gun violence in the streets of Oakland. This page serves as a tribute to all of our fallen soldiers and freedom fighters who have lost their lives to inner-communal violence and/or state sponsored police terror.
